In a press interview, Chief Executive Stanley commented on the hard living conditions that he witnessed on his visit to various islands such as South Caicos or Salt Cay, where he found some people to be vulnerable and neglected, with limited resources and limited access to them.

24. The Territory has three international airports: the main one on Providenciales, and smaller ones on Grand Turk and South Caicos.

33. In support of efforts by the Marine Department to manage the lobster and conch resources, a project research programme had been instituted and expanded. This had involved continued infrastructure development, including the construction of an aquarium and laboratory facility on South Caicos.

44. In July 2005, work was commenced on the construction of a long-awaited clinic on South Caicos.18 A core priority for the Ministry of Health is now the development of two hospitals (a 20-bed facility on Grand Turk and a 40- to 50-bed trauma centre on Providenciales, with construction scheduled to begin by August 2006). The facilities are expected to help reduce the escalating and unsustainable cost of the treatment abroad programme.
