95. The delegation stressed that Syria was cooperating with the human rights mechanisms, noting that last year, Syria had received visits from the Special Rapporteur on the right to food and the Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, and it would welcome more such visits once the situation returned to normal.

General comment 14, on article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, is a powerful mandate that should be used against the tobacco industry, referring to " the minimization, so far as is reasonably practicable, of the causes of health hazards inherent in the working environment " and recognizing the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.

From 12 to 14 August 2006, the Representative carried out a joint mission to Lebanon and Israel with the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, the Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health and the Special Rapporteur on adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living.
9- خلال الفترة من 12 إلى 14 آب/أغسطس 2006، اضطلع الممثل ببعثة مشتركة إلى لبنان وإسرائيل برفقة المقررة الخاصة المعنية بحالات الإعدام خارج القضاء أو بإجراءات موجزة أو تعسفاً، والمقرر الخاص المعني بحق كل شخص في التمتع بأعلى مستوى يمكن بلوغه من الصحة البدنية والعقلية، والمقرر الخاص المعني بالسكن اللائق كعنصر من عناصر الحق في مستوى معيشي مناسب.

This is consistent with the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, as reflected in article 25 (1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, article 24 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and article 12 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
