Mrs. Kurokochi (Japan): I would like to make a brief statement today on the subject of nuclear disarmament.

Mrs. Kurokochi (Japan): Madam President, may I at the outset congratulate you most warmly on your assumption of the presidency of the Conference on Disarmament?

Our procedures are tending to hinder rather than to help us find a way forward, and in that regard I welcome the positive practical suggestions we have heard this morning from Ambassador Kurokochi for review of working methods.
وتميل اجراءاتنا إلى اعاقتنا بدلاً من أن تساعدنا على ايجاد وسيلة لاحراز تقدم، وفي هذا الصدد أرحب بالاقتراحات العملية الايجابية التي سمعناها صباح هذا اليوم من السفيرة كوروكوشي بشأن استعراض أساليب عملنا.

Allow me also to express the deep gratitude of my delegation to your distinguished predecessors, Ambassador Yumjav of Mongolia, Ambassador de Icaza of Mexico and Ambassador Kurokochi of Japan, who did their utmost for the success of the CD during their respective tenures of office.

92. Mrs. Kurokochi (Japan) said that the Conference had succeeded in strengthening the restrictions and prohibitions contained in Protocol II. She hoped that the implementation of and strict compliance with the new provisions by all States would save numerous civilian lives.
٢٩- السيدة كوروكوشي )اليابان( قالت إنها ترى أن المؤتمر قد توصل من عدة نواح الى تعزيز الالتزامات والقيود التي وضعها البروتوكول الثاني. وأعربت عن أملها في أن يسمح تطبيق اﻷحكام الجديدة من جانب الدول واحترامها الدقيق بإنقاذ أرواح بشرية لا تحصى.

Mrs. Kurokochi (Japan): I have asked for the floor today to convey to the Conference on Disarmament the statement made by the official spokesman of my Government, the Chief Cabinet Secretary, on President Chirac's announcement on 29 January to end France's nuclear testing permanently.
