The framework Act on Mother Earth and comprehensive development for a good life sets out the main principles for comprehensive development in harmony and balance with Mother Earth for a good life, by ensuring the ongoing regenerative capacity of the components and life systems of Mother Earth, and recovering and strengthening local wisdom and ancestral knowledge taking into account the complementarity of rights, obligations and duties.

In accordance with General Assembly resolution 68/216 on " Harmony with Nature " , during its sixty-eighth session the President of the General Assembly convened a fourth interactive dialogue on the subject during the commemoration of International Mother Earth Day, on 22 April 2014, with the participation of Member States, United Nations organizations, independent experts, major groups and other stakeholders.

Finally, the council has actively participated in and promoted many awareness-raising events around the world, including World Water Day on 22 March (dedicated to water quality in 2010, urbanization in 2011 and food in 2012), International Mother Earth Day on 22 April 2010 and Live Earth in April 2010.
