The strategic directions for the conventions and action plans and for the Regional Seas Programme Coordination Office were further addressed at the sixth Global Meeting of the Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans, held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 30 November to 2 December 2004.

397. The Action Plan for the Protection and Management of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the South Asian Regional Seas Programme was adopted in March 1995 and came into force in January 1998.
٣٩٧ - اعتمدت في شهر آذار/ مارس ١٩٩٥ خطة عمل لحماية البيئة البحرية والساحلية وإدارتها لبرنامج البحار اﻹقليمية لجنوب آسيا ودخلت حيز النفاذ في كانون الثاني/يناير ١٩٩٨.

The revitalization of the regional Seas Programme has yielded dividends and greater efforts should be made to consolidate the process.
(ك) إن إعادة الحيوية لبرنامج البحار الإقليمية قد أعطى نتائج، وينبغي بذل المزيد من الجهود لتوحيد العملية.

3. Welcomes the offer of the Central American Commission on Maritime Transportation to host, with the support of the Government of Nicaragua, the second meeting of High-level, Governmentdesignated Experts of the proposed Central-East Pacific Regional Seas Programme in Managua in the early part of 2001;
3 - يرحب بعرض لجنة أمريكا الوسطى للنقل البحري، أن تستضيف، بدعم من حكومة نيكاراغوا، الاجتماع الثاني للخبراء رفيعي المستوى المعينين من حكوماتهم لبرنامج البحار الإقليمية المقترح لمنطقة شرق المحيط الهادئ الوسطى في مناغوا في النصف الأول من عام 2001؛

- Implementation of joint projects between regional organizations of the UNEP regional Seas Programme and other relevant international organizations;

346. On 12 August 1997, the Regional Coordinating Unit of the Eastern African Regional Seas Programme was inaugurated on St. Anne Island, Seychelles.

For its implementation, the strategic action plan relies upon the existing structure of the UNEP regional Seas Programme, its relevant conventions and protocols, UNEP regional offices and other regional bodies.

Notes with satisfaction that 2014 marks the fortieth anniversary of the Regional Seas Programme of the United Nations Environment Programme, and encourages States that have not done so to become parties to regional seas conventions addressing the protection and preservation of the marine environment;

36. In June 1998 at the Hague, UNEP convened the first interregional Seas Programme consultation, which brought together the secretariats and coordinating units of the UNEP Regional Seas Programme as well as other regional organizations.

Specifically, with regard to the Pretoria regional centre, the regional Seas Programme and the Secretariat could collaborate with respect to the Convention for the Protection, Management and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Eastern African Region (the Nairobi Convention).

On the margins of the Intergovernmental Review Meeting, four sessions were held on the regional seas programmes. At these sessions, brief presentations were made describing experience in the development and implementation of the Global Programme of Action in relation to programmes in 12 regional seas areas.
