In the 2006-2007 biennium, the subprogramme organized five capacity-building workshops to strengthen the technical capacities of national experts in energy efficiency, energy security, renewable energy, climate change and the formulation, implementation and monitoring of national sustainable energy development strategies.

Within the framework of a project entitled " Promoting sustainable energy development partnerships for implementation of the Kyoto Protocol in the Asian and Pacific region " , funded by the Government of Japan, ESCAP organized a workshop in Bishkek in April 2004, to promote a clean development mechanism in Central Asia.
