V. Conclusions regarding the pension scheme for the judges of the International Court of Justice

Accordingly, future revisions to the annual base salary of judges at the International Court of Justice will be harmonized with revisions to be made to the base salary scale for staff in the Professional and higher categories.

3. The General Assembly, in its resolution 53/214 of 18 December 1998, set the annual salary of the judges of the International Court of Justice at 160,000 United States dollars.
3 - وقد حددت الجمعية العامة، في قرارها 53/214 المؤرخ 18 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1998، المرتب السنوي لقضاة محكمة العدل الدولية بمبلغ 000 160 دولار من دولارات الولايات المتحدة.

48. The Tribunal requested the Meeting of States Parties to approve an adjustment in the remuneration of the members of the Tribunal in the light of General Assembly resolution 53/214 of 18 December 1998 whereby the annual salary of the judges of the International Court of Justice was set at $160,000, effective 1 January 1999.

The average expected length of service rendered by judges of the International Court of Justice is 12 years (including judges who serve full multiple terms and those completing the remaining terms of judges who have deceased).

9. Pursuant to resolution 65/248, and to the adjustment mechanism approved by the General Assembly in its decision 62/547, the annual net base salary of the judges of the International Court of Justice was revised from $166,596 to $168,878 effective 1 January 2011.
9 - وعملا بالقرار 65/248، ووفقاً لآلية التسوية التي وافقت عليها الجمعية العامة في مقررها 62/547، جرى تنقيح صافي المرتب الأساسي السنوي لقضاة محكمة العدل الدولية من 596 166 دولارا إلى 878 168 دولارا، اعتبارا من 1 كانون الثاني/يناير 2011.

12. Mr. VILCHEZ ASHER (Nicaragua) said that his country was in favour of the establishment of an independent and impartial court on the basis of a multilateral treaty. Judges should be elected through the General Assembly in the same way as the judges of the International Court of Justice and funding for the court should be provided from the Organization's regular budget.

Consequently, on the basis of the decision of the Meeting of States Parties (SPLOS/200, para. 2), the annual base salary of the judges of the Tribunal needs to be adjusted to $166,596, effective 1 January 2010, in line with the adjustment made to that of the judges of the International Court of Justice.

I. For judges at the International Court of Justice
أولا - لقضاة محكمة العدل الدولية

The Committee also examined the new salary system for judges at the International Court of Justice, and other courts and tribunals in the United Nations system, which was established on the basis of General Assembly decision 62/547 adopted on 3 April 2008.
ونظرت اللجنة أيضا في نظام الرواتب الجديد لقضاة محكمة العدل الدولية والمحاكم والهيئات القضائية الأخرى في منظومة الأمم المتحدة، الذي وضع بناء على مقرر الجمعية العامة 62/547، الذي اتخذ في 3 نيسان/أبريل 2008.

14. The Committee notes that the travel and subsistence regulations approved by the General Assembly in its resolution 37/240 of 21 December 1982 (art. 1, para. 2) provide for first class accommodation for ICJ judges.
14 - تلاحظ اللجنة أن النظم المتعلقة بالسفر والإقامة التي وافقت عليها الجمعية العامة في قرارها 37/240 المؤرخ 21 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1982 (المادة 1، الفقرة 2)، تنص على استخدام الدرجة الأولى لقضاة محكمة العدل الدولية.

Japan supports the unanimous opinion of the judges of the ICJ regarding the existing obligation under international law to pursue nuclear disarmament and to conclude the negotiations on that issue in good faith.
وتؤيد اليابان الرأي الجماعي لقضاة محكمة العدل الدولية فيما يتعلق بالالتزام الحالي بموجب القانون الدولي بالسعي إلى نزع السلاح النووي وإنهاء المفاوضات بشأن تلك القضية بنية حسنة.

Accordingly, they will be paid an all-inclusive ad hoc daily rate of one three-hundred-and-sixty-fifth of the annual salary applicable to the Judges of ICJ for the period 17 November to 31 December 1993.
وتبعا لذلك، فسيدفع لهم معدل يومي خاص شامل كل شيء يعادل جزءا من ثلاثمائة وخمسة وستين جزءا من المرتب السنوي الــذي يدفــع لقضاة محكمة العدل الدولية عن الفترة من ١٧ تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر إلى ٣١ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٣.

The Secretary-General, noting that the General Assembly was the sole authority to determine the conditions of service and pension benefits of the judges of the Court and of the Tribunals, considered that the existing disparity should be brought to the attention of the Assembly for its consideration.
