However, the Committee is concerned at the information given by the State party that the minimum age for labour has not been established and that there is no legal protection for working children and no mechanism put in place to monitor the working conditions and overall situation of working children.

The Government had set up special schools for the latter and would continue doing so and planned to open residential schools for child workers in urban centres and to provide vocational training for such workers.

As regards drop-out prevention efforts, the findings of a field survey of working juveniles undertaken by the Ministry of Labour in 2002 are noteworthy. The aim of the survey was to identify the causes of the school drop-out phenomenon, in the expectation that a knowledge of those causes would be a highly useful guide to decision-makers seeking to upgrade educational services and design drop-out prevention programmes.

604. With a view to fully protecting children who work within their family, the Committee recommends that the State party amend its existing legislation appropriately.
