The Committee welcomes the approval of the National Plan to Combat Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation in July 2009 and notes that the 2005 Act on Trafficking in and Smuggling of Children criminalizes sexual exploitation and that measures have been adopted to prevent sexual exploitation of children in the context of tourism.

58. In particular, OHCHR has raised awareness about violations of the human rights of children in the context of migration. Often the object of suspicion, neglect and abuse, migrant children are locked up in immigration detention centres, denied access to essential services because of their status, or that of their parents and subjected to the same regimes of criminalization as adult migrants.
