A Plan of Action to advance the status of women was being drawn up as part of policy programmes to ensure a wider gender perspective within OAU, which would be even more visible within the new structure of the integrated Secretariat of the African Economic Community.

27. In February 1994, the joint secretariat decided to set up a Resource Mobilization Committee which would recommend to it measures aimed at obtaining the financial resources required to support the operational activities of the African Economic Community.
