Permit me also to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and its Chairman, Mr. Cissé, the Ambassador of the friendly country of Senegal.

At the same time, we support the noble work of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, and we praise the activities carried out under its programme of work in 2008.

I would also like to welcome the 2008 report of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and commend the members of the Committee for an excellent job, and for the dedication that they have demonstrated from year to year.

As I mentioned this morning to the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, to reconcile is a fair compromise between remembering and forgetting.

At the same time, it is my pleasure to express my gratitude and appreciation to the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, to its Chairman, His Excellency Ambassador Paul Badji, and to all the other officers and members of the Committee.

The Division for Palestinian Rights is effectively supporting the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, although a peaceful settlement to the question of Palestine is yet to be achieved.
وتقدم شعبة حقوق الفلسطينيين دعما فعالا للجنة المعنية بممارسة الشعب الفلسطيني لحقوقه غير القابلة للتصرف، وإن كان لم يتم حتى الآن التوصل إلى تسوية سلمية لقضية فلسطين.

In my capacity as Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, I should like to draw your attention, as a matter of urgency, to the present alarming situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including Jerusalem.
بصفتي رئيسا للجنة المعنية بممارسة الشعب الفلسطيني لحقوقه غير القابلة للتصرف، أود أن أوجه انتباهكم، على سبيل الاستعجال، إلى الوضع الحالي الذي ينذر بالخطر في الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة، بما فيها القدس.

I should therefore like, in my capacity as Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, to address these two burning issues, in the hope that the General Assembly will act in such a way as to discharge its lofty mission.
ولذا فإني أود، بصفتي رئيسا للجنة المعنية بممارسة الشعب الفلسطيني لحقوقه غير القابلة للتصرف، أن أتناول هاتين المسألتين الملتهبتين، أملا في أن تتصرف الجمعية العامة بطريقة تؤدي بها مهمتها السامية.

We would like to thank the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People for its positive efforts, as reflected in the report (A/57/35) before us.
