Referring to the Voluntary Guidelines to Support the Progressive Realization of the right to adequate food in the Context of National Food Security, adopted by the FAO Council in 2004, she said that FAO had just made available on its website a comprehensive Right to Food Methodological Toolbox.

I. REVIEW OF PROGRESS MADE IN THE DEFINITION OF the right to adequate food in INTERNATIONAL LAW: STATES’ OBLIGATIONS, INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS’ OBLIGATIONS AND THOSE OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR

It refers particularly to two major activities that were carried out in 2004: the adoption of the Voluntary Guidelines to Support the Progressive Realization of the right to adequate food in the Context of National Food Security; and the entry into force of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.

Ms. Brennen-Haylock (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)) said that FAO looked forward to continuing to work with the Special Rapporteur and to support Member States' efforts to implement the Voluntary Guidelines to Support the Progressive Realization of the right to adequate food in the Context of National Food Security.

They are intended to serve as a reference and to provide guidance to improve the governance of tenure of land, fisheries and forests with the goal of achieving food security for all and supporting the progressive realization of the right to adequate food in the context of national food security.

The Committee refers the State party to its general comment No. 12 (1999) on the right to adequate food and to the Voluntary Guidelines to support the progressive realization of the right to adequate food in the context of national food security, adopted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
