Welcoming the work undertaken by the Inter-Agency Task Force of the United Nations Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification,

The General Assembly, in its resolution 62/195, declared 2010-2020 the United Nations Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification.

Unfortunately, owing to the lack of international support and financial resources for national plans of action in countries affected by desertification, the goals of the United Nations Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification were not being attained.

Recalling United Nations General Assembly resolution 64/201 of 21 December 2009 concerning the United Nations Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification,

Recognizing the importance of the United Nations Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification and the opportunity it offers to all countries and, in particular, to countries with deserts and those affected by desertification, land degradation and drought,
