20. It is important to note that the small number of appointments each year as compared to the size of the population limits opportunities for improving the overall representation of women in the Secretariat.
٢٠ - ومن المهم اﻹشارة إلى أن قلة عدد التعيينات سنويا بالمقارنة مع حجم الموظفين قد حدت من فرص تحسين التمثيل اﻹجمالي للمرأة في اﻷمانة العامة.

10. The overall situation of women in the Secretariat remained a concern, especially their representation at higher levels.
١٠ - وأردفت تقول إن الحالة العامة للمرأة في اﻷمانة العامة ما زالت من دواعي القلق لا سيما فيما يتعلق بتمثيلها في المستويات العليا.

23. Equitable representation of women in the Secretariat must be approached in an overall context of human resources planning and management.
٢٣ - وأضافت قائلة إنه لا بد من اتباع نهج اﻹطار العام لتخطيط وإدارة الموارد البشرية إزاء التمثيل المنصف للمرأة في اﻷمانة العامة.

On the issue of gender equity, it is my belief that in order that the principles enshrined in the first Article of the Charter of the United Nations to be achieved, the equal participation of women in the Secretariat of this Organization, on an equitable regional basis, must continue to be implemented and be given urgent priority.

9. Mr. CHUINKAM (Cameroon) said that the Committee must use caution in the signals it sent to the Secretary-General, who had been asked to find ways to bring about the equitable representation of women in the Secretariat.
