There are nine national human rights institutions in the region supported by the Centre.

25. Encourage the continuation of support for the establishment of national human rights institutions in the region and related activities through a sustainable partnership with the AsiaPacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions that assists in promoting and protecting human rights in the Asian and Pacific region;

OHCHR supported processes for the establishment of national human rights institutions in Somalia and Yemen; and strengthened existing national human rights institutions in Ecuador, Haiti, Kosovo, Myanmar, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Uganda.

It considered new applications from the NHRIs of Mauritania, the Republic of Moldova, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tunisia and Ukraine, as well as from the Scottish Human Rights Commission, and conducted special reviews of the NHRIs of Algeria, Ecuador, Greece, Luxembourg, Malaysia and Nepal.
