The Intergovernmental Working Group promoted sustainable development by producing A Manual for the Preparers and Users of eco-efficiency indicators.

The objective of the project was to develop an accounting framework and guidelines to support true and fair disclosure of eco-efficiency indicators and to give guidance on how to define, recognize, measure and disclose environmental and financial information.

171. In the field of corporate environmental accounting, UNCTAD in 2004 published A Manual for the Preparers and Users of eco-efficiency indicators, which standardizes for the first time the presentation and disclosure of a company's environmental performance.
