As part of this initiative, a week-long workshop, involving programme and information technology staff from all four duty stations, was held in March 2007 to build more systematic collaboration in the implementation of the three projects under the global information technology initiative, including the development of clear road maps for each project.

The global information technology initiative, which is in various phases of implementation at all duty stations, establishes a standardized approach in the application of efficient and effective resource utilization and expands the use of electronic tools and processes in conference-servicing operations ( " virtualization " ).

(c) Launched in 1998, the Computer and information technology initiative project has significantly contributed to the establishment of information technology infrastructure at all UNRWA vocational training centres, most notably by introducing market-relevant courses in information technology and certified training programmes such as the International Computer Driving Licence and the Cisco Certified Network Professional.
