It was emphasized that violence against women, in or outside the family setting, was a criminal act and, as such, had to be dealt with by criminal law and the criminal justice system. It was thus clearly a matter falling within the purview of the Commission, which should continue giving it due priority.
وشدد على أن العنف ضد المرأة، سواء داخل محيط اﻷسرة أو خارجها، هو عمل اجرامي، فيجب تبعا لذلك، أن يعالجه القانون الجنائي ونظام العدالة الجنائية، وبالتالي فهو مسألة تقع بوضوح، ضمن حدود اختصاص اللجنة، التي ينبغي لها أن تعطيه اﻷولوية اللازمة.
