1. The objectives of the report are to examine the profile of civil society and analyse how the increased involvement and cooperation of its organizations in economic and social development programmes of selected United Nations organizations can be better structured and expanded.

In that context, Member States expressed appreciation for the effort made by the Secretariat to compare the governance structures of other United Nations agencies (for example, the non-paper prepared by the Secretariat on the governance structures of UNODC and selected United Nations entities) and agreed that the working group could benefit from studying and drawing experiences from already existing models within the United Nations system.
