For initiating political empowerment of women, the Government has passed Local Government Election Bill 1997 to ensure grassroots level women's political participation.

It is worth recalling the Quota Law, in the 1990s, which provided for quotas in politics, to ensure a more balanced dispute between men and women in proportional elections, that brought about the discussion about women's political participation and their relation to the various levels of power.
