1. The Committee or the Working Group established under rule 87 may request, through the SecretaryGeneral, the State party concerned or the author of the communication to submit additional written information or clarifications relevant to the question of admissibility of the communication.

It also follows from paragraphs 3, 6 and 10 of annex III to the rules of procedure that the subcommission established by the Commission to consider a submission may, in the course of the initial as well as at any stage of the main examination of that submission, request the coastal State concerned to provide additional data, information or clarifications regarding that submission.

9.3 Similarly, in the absence of any other pertinent information or explanations, the Committee considered that the author's blanket claim about the lack of independence of the State party's judiciary was not sufficiently substantiated, for purposes of admissibility, and was inadmissible under article 2 of the Optional Protocol.
