In order for the prosecution of the persons responsible for the 1994 genocide to contribute to national reconciliation in Rwanda, as envisaged by the statute of the Tribunal, it is essential that the Rwandan people and, in particular, their political leaders and other opinion-shapers, such as the media and non-governmental organizations, have a good perception and understanding of the work of the Tribunal.
