The Forum had adopted a Framework of Action for Afro-Asian Cooperation in combating desertification and/or Mitigating the Effects of Drought.

Some of the plans and strategies, which have been and are being pursued beside the implementation of the Convention, which in one way or the other contributes to the combating of desertification and/or mitigation of drought, include:

At the interregional level, the Afro-Asian Forum on Cooperation in combating desertification and/or Mitigating the Effects of Drought had been held in August 1996 in Beijing, China, with the support of the Government of Japan and in cooperation with the Office of the Special Coordinator for Africa and Least Developed Countries of the Department for Policy Coordination and Sustainable Development and the interim secretariat of the Convention.
٢٠ - وعلى الصعيد اﻷقاليمي، عقد المنتدى اﻷفريقي اﻵسيوي بشأن التعاون في مكافحة التصحر و/أو التخفيف من آثار الجفاف في آب/أغسطس ١٩٩٦ في بيجين بالصين، بدعم من حكومة اليابان وبالتعاون مع مكتب المنسق الخاص لشؤون أفريقيا وأقل البلدان نموا بإدارة تنسيق السياسات والتنمية المستدامة واﻷمانة المؤقتة للاتفاقية.

48. National action plans for implementation of the Convention to Combat Desertification, and/or national plans for adaptation to climate change, had yet to become operational.
