9. On 9 December 1991, the General Assembly concluded its deliberations on the item entitled " Exploitation of the environment as a weapon in times of armed conflict and the taking of practical measures to prevent such exploitation " , with the adoption of decision 46/417, which reads as follows:

The fifth meeting of the United Nations Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea (the Consultative Process) met from 7 to 11 June 2004 and, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 58/240, organized its discussions around the following area " New sustainable uses of the oceans, including the conservation and management of the biological diversity of the seabed in areas beyond national jurisdiction " .
