Although there is no specific provision on gender equality under our laws, Article 12(1) of our Constitution guarantees equality to all Singaporeans, and this would include both men and women.

18. While the legal basis for gender equality may not be as specific as the Committee would like, article 12(1) of our Constitution provides sufficient guarantee of equality to all Singaporeans, men and women, and regardless of their marital status, age, disability and national origin.

Similarly, article 27 of our Constitution stipulates: " Everyperson shall be entitled to the protection of the courts in the enjoyment and exercise of constitutional rights and guarantees, including those which, although inherent in the individual, are not expressly mentioned in this Constitution or the international human rights instruments ... " .
10- كذلك، تنص المادة 27 من دستورنا على أن " لكل فرد الحق في الحماية من جانب المحاكم في التمتع بالحقوق والضمانات الدستورية وممارسة تلك الحقوق والضمانات، بما في ذلك تلك الخاصة بالفرد وغير المنصوص عليها صراحة في هذا الدستور أو في الصكوك الدولية المتعلقة بحقوق الإنسان... " .
