In view of the impact of this matter on the administration of the staff, the Committee recommends that it be taken up by the General Assembly at the first part of its fifty-fifth session.

1. The present document contains the programme of work and schedule of plenary meetings of the General Assembly for the remainder of the main part of its fifty-fifth session.

5. Reiterates its request to the Secretary-General to submit to the General Assembly, in September 2000, a comprehensive report on the financing of the Mission, including full budget estimates and information on the utilization of resources up to the time of the submission of the report, to enable the Assembly to take action on it at the main part of its fifty-fifth session.

In that connection the Advisory Committee wished to recall paragraph 38 of its report contained in document A/54/622, in which it recommended that a study be made of the potential for wider use of United Nations Volunteers to meet the requirements of field missions, to be submitted to the Assembly by the main part of its fifty-fifth session.

2. At the first meeting of its fifty-fifth session, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) approved the following draft resolution for adoption by the Economic and Social Council:

The Assembly also decided to hold a plenary meeting during the main part of its fifty-fifth session in observance of the fortieth anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples (decision 55/410).

With respect to the membership of the Security Council during the period under review, it will be recalled that the General Assembly, at the 32nd plenary meeting of its fifty-fifth session, on 10 October 2000, elected Colombia, Ireland, Mauritius, Norway and Singapore to fill the vacancies resulting from the expiration on 31 December 2000 of the terms of office of Argentina, Canada, Malaysia, Namibia and the Netherlands.

The General Assembly adopted the recommendation of the Committee on Conferences contained in the letter from the Chairman of the Committee (A/55/312) to authorize the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme/United Nations Population Fund and the Working Group on the Financing of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East to meet during the main part of its fifty-fifth session.

At the 88th plenary meeting of its fifty-fifth session, on 23 December 1999, the General Assembly adopted resolution 54/239 A, by which it decided to appropriate to the Special Account for the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia a total amount of $95,942,600 net ($106,149,400 gross) for the period from 1 January to 31 December 2000. The revised number of authorized posts stood at 848.

At the 89th plenary meeting of its fifty-fifth session, on 23 December 2000, the General Assembly, having considered the report of the Fifth Committee (A/55/691), adopted resolution 55/225 A, in which it approved the appropriation of $96,443,900 net for the Tribunal for the period from 1 January to 31 December 2001.
