16.31 The subprogramme will continue to promote regional cooperation in information and communications technology connectivity for the creation of an inclusive, knowledge-based society that is resilient to multiple, complex and interrelated threats posed by disasters.

(b) Improved knowledge and awareness of member States of effective strategies and policies in information and communications technology connectivity, space applications and disaster risk reduction and management, including their gender dimensions, for inclusive, equitable, sustainable and resilient development

(b) Calls upon United Nations organizations and other relevant organizations and forums to study the implications of the current world economic situation on information and communications technology deployment, particularly information and communications technology connectivity through broadband, and its economic sustainability;

(a) (i) Increased percentage of those participating in ESCAP activities on ICT connectivity and disaster risk reduction who indicate that knowledge-sharing within the region has increased; (ii) increased number of policy practices in multi-hazard disaster risk reduction collected, documented, analysed and disseminated by ESCAP to member States

The subprogramme will employ the strategy of collaborating with other relevant intergovernmental organizations and existing regional mechanisms to address information and communications technology connectivity and capacity-building, and provide member States with high-quality analysis and policy recommendations and options for addressing the emerging challenges of the region and enhancing regional connectivity.

Between May 2013 and July 2014, a total of $538 million was approved by the World Bank for regional programmes in the areas of energy development, combating sexual and gender-based violence, women's health, capacity-building for ICGLR and improvement of information and communications technology connectivity.
