As part of its revitalization process, the General Assembly adopted decision 52/492 in 1998, stipulating that, starting from the year 2000, the annual substantive session of the Commission would run for three weeks, that its agenda would usually cover two substantive issues per year, one of which would concern nuclear disarmament, and that one substantive issue would have to be covered over the course of three years.
