1. In its resolution 53/148 of 9 December 1998, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to submit to it at its fifty-fifth session a report on the state of regional arrangements for the promotion and protection of human rights, including the results of action taken in pursuance of that resolution.

The Committee requests the State party to clarify whether acts of torture and ill-treatment are subject to ex officio investigation and prosecution and to provide information, including statistics, on the number of complaints filed against public officials for torture and ill-treatment, as well as information about the results of the proceedings, at both the penal and disciplinary levels.
