٢ - تطلب إلى اللجنة المخصصة أن تواصل النظر في وضع نهج بديلة جديدة تأسيسا على مداولاتها في الدورة المعقودة في عام ١٩٩٣، بغية التوصل في وقت مبكر إلى اتفاق يوفر قوة دافعة جديدة لعملية تعزيز التعاون وكفالة السلم واﻷمن والاستقرار في منطقة المحيط الهندي؛

We are cognizant of the initiative for the establishment of a zone of peace in the Indian Ocean and request that support be given to the Ad Hoc Committee on the Indian Ocean as it continues its task of addressing new alternative approaches to the achievement of the goals set forth in the Declaration as well as to its own future role.

14. In 1993, the Committee had recommended moving away from a mandate fixed on the idea of convening a conference, and had instead sought to find new alternative approaches to implementing the zone of peace concept.

China supported the continued consideration by the Committee of new alternative approaches with a view to giving new impetus to the process of strengthening cooperation and ensuring peace, security and stability in the Indian Ocean region and hoped that the Committee would achieve positive progress in that regard.
٥ - واختتم كلمته قائلا إن الصين تؤيد مواصلة اللجنة النظر في نهج بديلة جديدة بغية إعطاء زخم جديد لعملية تعزيز التعاون وصيانة السلم واﻷمن والاستقرار في منطقة المحيط الهندي، وهي تتمنى للجنة إحراز تقدم في هذا الاتجاه.

2. His delegation noted with satisfaction the growing consensus in the Committee about the need to work to achieve the goals of peace, security and stability in the region and noted the development of new alternative approaches in that connection.
٢ - وأردف قائلا إن وفد باكستان يلاحظ بارتياح توافق اﻵراء الذي تم التوصل إليه في اللجنة فيما يتعلق بضرورة التوصل إلى تحقيق أهداف السلم واﻷمن والاستقرار في المنطقة ويلاحظ قيامها بوضع نهج بديلة جديدة في هذا الصدد.

8. In its efforts to elaborate new alternative approaches with a view to ensuring peace, security and stability in the Indian Ocean region, the Committee should continue to focus on attaining the objectives of the 1971 Declaration.
٨ - واضاف قائلا إنه يلزم على اللجنة المخصصة أن تولي مزيدا من الاهتمام لتحقيق أهداف إعلان عام ١٩٧١، في جهودها التي تبذلها في مواصلة وضع نهج بديلة جديدة لتحقيق أهداف السلم واﻷمن والاستقرار في منطقة المحيط الهندي.

17. The Ad Hoc Committee welcomed the renewed participation of some members and emphasized the need for all permanent members of the Security Council and the major maritime users to cooperate with and participate in the work of the Ad Hoc Committee, particularly at a time when the Committee is actively engaged in the task of developing new alternative approaches.
٧١ - ورحبت اللجنة المخصصة بتجدد مشاركة بعض اﻷعضاء وشددت على ضرورة قيام جميع أعضاء مجلس اﻷمن الدائمين والمستعملين البحريين الرئيسيين بالتعاون مع اللجنة المخصصة والمشاركة في عملها، لاسيما في وقت تعمل فيه اللجنة بنشاط في مهمة وضع نهج بديلة جديدة.

١٨ - وأوصت اللجنة المخصصة بمواصلة النظر في نهج بديلة جديدة بناء على مداولاتها في الدورة الحالية، بغية الوصول إلى اتفاق في وقت مبكر، ﻹعطاء دفعة جديدة لعملية تدعيم التعاون وضمان السلم واﻷمن والاستقرار في منطقة المحيط الهندي.

These transformations require a search for new alternative approaches which would lead to the achievement of the goals contained in the Declaration of the Indian Ocean as a Zone of Peace and as considered at the meeting of the littoral and hinterland States of the Indian Ocean held in July 1979.

14. Mr. MAHMOOD (Pakistan) said that General Assembly resolution 47/59 had directed the Committee to consider new alternative approaches leading to the achievement of the goals contained in the Declaration, taking into account the recent changes in the international political landscape which had provided new opportunities to strengthen international and regional peace, security and stability.
٤١ - السيد محمود )باكستان(: قال إن قرار الجمعية العامة ٤٧/٥٩ وجه اللجنة الى النظر في نهج بديلة جديدة تؤدي الى تحقيق اﻷهداف الواردة في اﻹعلان، مع مراعاة التغييرات التي طرأت مؤخرا على الساحة السياسية الدولية والتي أتاحت فرصا جديدة لتعزيز السلم واﻷمن والاستقرار على الصعيدين الدولي واﻹقليمي.
