22. The Special Committee took note of the report of Hannu Halinen, the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights to investigate Israel’s violations of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel since 1967.6
٢٢ - وقد أحاطت اللجنة الخاصة علما بتقرير هانو هالينين المقرر الخاص للجنة حقوق اﻹنسان المعني بالتحقيق في انتهاكات إسرائيل لحقوق اﻹنسان في اﻷراضي الفلسطينية التي تحتلها اسرائيل منذ عام ١٩٦٧)٦(.

The current Special Rapporteur, Mr. Hannu Halinen (Finland), presented reports to the Commission at its fifty-second and fifty-third sessions (E/CN.4/1996/18 and E/CN.4/1997/16, respectively).

Halinen also stated that Israeli settlement activities and the building of bypass roads connecting the settlements to each other and to Israel was the source of greatest concern in the occupied territories. “The concerns have been exacerbated by the unilateral suspension by Israel on 2 December 1998 of implementation of the Wye River memorandum.” (Jerusalem Post, 3 March)

Following the resignations of Mr. René Felber (Switzerland) in 1995, Mr. Hannu Halinen (Finland) in 1999, and Mr. Giorgio Giacomelli (Italy) in March 2001, Mr. John Dugard (South Africa) was appointed Special Rapporteur in June 2001.

The Special Rapporteur on Palestinian Territories occupied since 1967, Mr. Hannu Halinen (Finland) noted in his report to the Commission on Human Rights at its fifty-fifth session, on 20 January 1999, that the number of Palestinian prisoners being detained in Israeli prisons and detention centres has gone down to 2,200, of whom seven were women.
46 - وقد لاحظ السيد هانو هالينين (فنلندا)، المقرر الخاص المعني بالأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة منذ 1967، في التقرير الذي قدمه إلى لجنة حقوق الإنسان خلال دورتها الخامسة والخمسين المعقودة في 20 كانون الثاني/يناير 1999، أن عدد السجناء الفلسطينيين المحتجزيــن في السجون والمعتقلات الإسرائيلية انخفض إلى 200 2 سجين، منهم 7 نساء.
