The Board concluded its general debate and heard statements by the representatives of Romania, Argentina, Bolivia, Switzerland, Pakistan, Bulgaria, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Cuba, Côte d'Ivoire, the Russian Federation, Australia and Slovakia, as well as by the observers of the Third World Network and the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.

65. ILO8 and the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) drew attention to 212 cases of abandonment involving over 3,500 crew members, which had been notified to the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) between July 1995 and June 1999.

The report " Civil society review of October 17th, International Day for the Eradication of Poverty " was prepared by the ATD Fourth World, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur representing the Committee for Social Development and the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations, and the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.
