FAO, the Economic Commission for Africa and UNIDO have been collaborating on a capacity-building project for sustainable modernization of agriculture and rural transformation.

The second project is part of ECA efforts to enhance the capacity of member States in the design of sustainable modernization of agriculture and rural transformation (SMART) to help Africa move towards self-sufficiency in food, reduction of hunger and eradication of poverty.
أما المشروع الثاني فهو جزء من جهود اللجنة الاقتصادية لأفريقيا الرامية إلى تعزيز قدرات الدول الأعضاء على تصميم مشاريع التحديث المستدام للزراعة والتحول الريفي من أجل مساعدة أفريقيا للتقدم صوب الاكتفاء الذاتي من الغذاء، والحد من الجوع والقضاء على الفقر.

140. During the period under review, ECA was also involved in two ongoing Development Account projects which address needs in key areas such as capacity-building on gender statistics to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women, and sustainable agriculture and rural transformation.
140- وخلال الفترة قيد الاستعراض شاركت اللجنة الاقتصادية لأفريقيا أيضاً في مشروعين جاريين لحساب التنمية يهدفان إلى تلبية الاحتياجات في مجالات رئيسية مثل بناء القدرات في ميدان الإحصاءات الجنسانية من أجل تعزيز المساواة بين الجنسين وتمكين المرأة والزراعة المستدامة والتحول الريفي.

As the evaluation of a project on sustainable modernization of agriculture and rural transformation in Africa concluded, " the project duration has not been long enough for behavioural patterns to change " .
وكما جاء في خلاصة لتقييم مشروع متعلق بالتحديث المستدام للزراعة والتحول الريفي في أفريقيا، " لم تكن مدة المشروع طويلة بما يكفي كـي تتغير أنماط السلوك " .

iii. Technical materials: support to member countries in the establishment of knowledge management platforms on trade and environment to be jointly implemented with the African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC); developing state-of-the-art analytical tools for improved decision-making and informed debate on African agriculture and rural transformation; maintaining and managing the regional agricultural market information systems in Africa;

Through the support provided, African green revolution design teams have emerged in Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania using elements of the ECA manual.* Media reports reflect that African green revolution concepts are being incorporated into policies for the sustainable modernization of agriculture and rural transformation in Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia.
