The Commission will have before it the report of the Secretary-General, providing information on recent developments, including the status of revision of the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC), the Central Product Classification (CPC), the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) and the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO).

4. Additional activities regarding ongoing work to improve or revise classifications, such as for the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED), the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) or the Extended Balance of Payments Services Classification (EBOPS), are described in a separate background document that will be available to the Commission.

38. The Working Group will develop all documents and actions relating to the International Standard Industrial Classification, the Central Product Classification and the International Standard Classification of Occupations by and for the countries involved, i.e. it will develop materials and programmes to assist countries in implementing the classifications.

Chapter II highlights major activities carried out since 2007 in relation to the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC), the Central Product Classification (CPC), the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO) and the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED), as recommended at previous sessions of the Commission or initiated by their respective governing bodies.

There is already considerable collaboration among OECD, Eurostat and the UNESCO Institute for Statistics on the International Standard Classification, but it would be useful to formalize these relationships and bring on board other international organizations such as the United Nations Statistics Division and UNICEF that collect data on educational participation and attainment.
