2. The report follows up on the report submitted by the Secretary-General to the General Assembly at its sixty-fourth session (A/64/315), which included a focus on ending female genital mutilation.

At its sixty-second session, the Assembly adopted resolution 62/140 on the girl child, in which it urged States to enact and enforce legislation to protect girls from female genital mutilation, and also urged States and the international community, the relevant United Nations entities and civil society to continue to actively support targeted innovative programmes that address ending female genital mutilation.
واتخذت الجمعية العامة في دورتها الثانية والستين القرار 62/140 بشأن الطفلة الذي حثت فيه الدول على سن التشريعات من أجل حماية الفتيات من تشويه الأعضاء التناسلية للإناث وإنفاذها، كما حثت الدول والمجتمع الدولي وكيانات الأمم المتحدة ذات الصلة والمجتمع المدني على مواصلة تقديم الدعم بصورة نشطة للبرامج المبتكرة ذات الأهداف المحددة التي تعالج مسألة وضع حد لتشويه الأعضاء التناسلية للإناث.
