It is important to remember that the question of Western Sahara is a decolonization question under resolution 1541 (XV) on the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples. This means that it comes under the direct responsibility of the United Nations, which must, in accordance with its Charter and the practice in this matter, see the decolonization process in this Territory to its conclusion.
1 - يجدر التذكير بأن مسألة الصحراء الغربية مسألة تتعلق بإنهاء الاستعمار تدخل في نطاق أحكام القرار 1514 (د- 15) بشأن إعلان منح الاستقلال للبلدان والشعوب المستعمرة، ويعني ذلك أنها تدخل في إطار المسؤولية المباشرة لمنظمة الأمم المتحدة التي يقع عليها بالتالي واجب المضي بعملية إنهاء الاستعمار في ذلك الإقليم إلى نهايتها وفقا لميثاقها وللممارسات المتبعة في هذا المجال.
