The European Union supported the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Special Representative to bring peace to Afghanistan. It appealed to all parties to the conflict to end the bloodshed and negotiate a peaceful settlement as the only way to halt attacks on the civilian population and other serious violations of international humanitarian law. It also appealed to other countries in the region not to interfere in the conflict.
