Wanis Charef El Abani, born in 1948, was employed as a judge at the Benghazi court of first instance for several years, during which time he received several warnings from the Ministry of Justice, followed by threats of dismissal for not deferring to instructions from his superiors in the judgements he issued.
وكان ونيس شارف العباني، المولود في عام 1948، يعمل قاضياً في محكمة بنغازي الابتدائية طيلة سنوات تلقى أثناءها تحذيرات عدة من وزارة العدل، أعقبتها تهديدات بفصله إن لم يحترم التوجيهات الصادرة عن رؤسائه في الأحكام التي يصدرها.

Wanis Charef El Abani was then held incommunicado and tortured with extreme cruelty for three months before being taken to Abu Salim prison (in Tripoli).
وقد احتُجز ونيس شارف العباني في حبس انفرادي وعُذّب بقسوة بالغة لمدة ثلاثة أشهر قبل نقله إلى سجن أبو سليم (في طرابلس).
