1. It is recalled that, on 1 February 2011, the Seabed Disputes Chamber of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea delivered its advisory opinion on the responsibilities and obligations of States sponsoring persons and entities with respect to activities in the Area.
١ - تجدر الإشارة إلى أن غرفة منازعات قاع البحار التابعة للمحكمة الدولية لقانون البحار قد أصدرت، في 1 شباط/فبراير 2011، فتواها بشأن مسؤوليات وواجبات الدول المزكّية للأشخاص والكيانات فيما يتعلق بالأنشطة في المنطقة.

23. The Seabed Disputes Chamber has outlined the importance of the Vienna Convention for the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in its Advisory Opinion on the responsibilities and obligations of States sponsoring persons and entities with respect to activities in the Area:

Takes note with appreciation of the advisory opinion on the responsibilities and obligations of States sponsoring persons and entities with respect to activities in the Area, issued by the Seabed Disputes Chamber of the Tribunal on 1 February 2011, at the request of the Council of the Authority, pursuant to article 191 of the Convention;

In its advisory opinion on Responsibilities and Obligations of States Sponsoring Persons and Entities with respect to activities in the Area, the Seabed Disputes Chamber indicated that certain rules on the liability of sponsoring States in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea " are in line with the rules of customary international law on this issue.
