22.19 Meetings of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies are convened annually pursuant to General Assembly resolution 49/178 of 23 December 1994. They are attended by the Chairpersons or representatives of the above-mentioned treaty-based bodies.

At the 320th and 339th meetings, held on 5 and 18 May 1998, Mr. Sørensen, who had participated in the ninth meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies held at the United Nations Office at Geneva from 25 to 27 February 1998, provided information on the main issues debated during that meeting as well as on its conclusions and recommendations.

Ms. EVATT recalled that paragraph 24 of the report of the Ninth Meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies (A/53/125) had envisaged the preparation of a plan of action that would be used to secure additional resources for the Office of the High Commissioner to enable it to provide servicing for treaty bodies.

14. At its seventeenth session, the Committee had before it the report of the seventh meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies (A/51/482, annex). At the 280th meeting, held on 22 November 1997, the Chairman of the Committee, who had participated in that meeting, drew the attention of the Committee members to the conclusions and recommendations contained in the report.
