In its resolution 1226 (1999), adopted by consensus, the Council endorsed the decision by the Secretary-General to send his Special Envoy for Africa to the region in support of OAU efforts and strongly urged Ethiopia and Eritrea to maintain their commitment to a peaceful resolution of the border dispute, calling upon them to refrain from taking military action.
وأيد المجلس في قراره ١٢٢٦ )١٩٩٩(، المتخذ بتوافق اﻵراء، قرار اﻷمين العام بإيفاد مبعوثه الخاص ﻷفريقيا إلى المنطقة تأييدا لجهود منظمة الوحدة الافريقية وحث بقوة إثيوبيا وإريتريا على مواصلة التزامهما بالتماس حل سلمي لنزاع الحدود، وناشدهما الامتناع عن اتخاذ إجراء عسكري.

The efforts of the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa to assist the Secretary-General in improving coherence and coordination of United Nations system support to Africa resulted in an increase of joint activities to 37.
أدّت الجهود التي بذلها مكتب المستشار الخاص لشؤون أفريقيا لمساعدة الأمين العام في تعزيز الاتساق والتنسيق على صعيد الدعم الذي تقدمه منظومة الأمم المتحدة لأفريقيا إلى زيادة الأنشطة المشتركة إذ بلغت 37 نشاطا.
