5. Takes note of the initiative introduced by the Syrian Arab Republic at the UN Security Council in the (month) of Safar 1424H (April 2003) in favour of making the Middle East region a zone free of all weapons of mass-destruction particularly nuclear ones.

The efforts of the Al-khoei Foundation, in collaboration with other organizations, have prompted the traditional religious establishment in the holy city of Najaf, in Iraq, to mark an important day in the Islamic calendar, the first day of the (month) of Safar, to be the Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
وقد أدت جهود مؤسسة الخوئي، بالتعاون مع المنظمات الأخرى، إلى حث المؤسسة الدينية التقليدية في مدينة النجف المقدسة بالعراق إلى تحديد يوم مهم في التقويم الإسلامي، وهو غرة شهر صَفر لكي يصبح يوم القضاء على العنف ضد المرأة.

The first day of the (month) of Safar was when the women and children of Prophet Muhammad's household went to Syria from Iraq after the tragic Battle of Karbala, in which Imam Hussain and the majority of the other men in the Prophet's family were martyred.
وهذا اليوم هو الذي شهد نزوح النساء والأطفال من أسرة النبي محمد إلى سورية من العراق بعد معركة كربلاء المأساوية التي استُشهِد فيها الإمام الحسين وغالبية الرجال من آل بيت النبي.
