First and foremost, I would like to say that Africa appreciates all the congratulatory messages addressed to it on the occasion of the entry into force of the Treaty of Pelindaba, which has now made the whole territory of Africa a nuclear-weapon-free zone.

98. Furthermore, the Committee welcomed the entry into force on 15 July 2009 of the Pelindaba Treaty making Africa a nuclear-weapon-free zone, thanks to the ratification of the treaty by the Republic of Burundi.

115. With regard to the entry into force of the Pelindaba Treaty making Africa a nuclear-weapon-free zone, the Committee was informed that the first Conference of the Parties had been held in Addis Ababa on 4 November 2010.

127. In connection with the entry into force of the Treaty of Pelindaba making Africa a nuclear-weapon-free zone, the Committee was informed that the African Union had established the African Commission on Nuclear Energy, headquartered in South Africa.
