The theme for this year's Africa Industrialization Day is `Strengthening Productive Capacity for Poverty Reduction within the Framework of the New Partnership for Africa's Development'.

Given the prominence of the private sector, it was quite appropriate that the theme for the celebration of Africa Industrialization Day in 1997 was the development of small- and medium-scale industries.
