64. OAU is a regional organization of the African countries whose main goal is to promote cooperation among African States in the economic, social, cultural and educational fields.

5. During the reporting period, the Centre, despite severe financial constraints, continued to fulfil its mandate insofar as possible by contributing to efforts to promote wider understanding and cooperation among African States in the areas of peace, disarmament and security.

In this respect, concern over ICCAT quota allocation criteria was raised by States at the last meeting of the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation among African States bordering the Atlantic Ocean, held at Morocco in February 1999 (see para. 277).

The third ministerial meeting of the Follow-up Committee of the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation among African States bordering the Atlantic Ocean was held at Rabat from 22 to 25 February 1999 to assess the state of cooperation between the Conference and other international and regional organizations at the technical and financial levels.

1. This report has been prepared by the Director-General of FAO, in consultation with the Chairman of the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation among African States Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, in pursuance of Council decision 1994/264 entitled " Cooperation in fisheries in Africa " .
١ - أعد المدير العام لمنظمة اﻷمم المتحدة لﻷغذية والزراعة هذا التقرير، بالتشاور مع رئيس المؤتمر الوزاري المعني بالتعاون في مجال مصائد اﻷسماك فيما بين الدول الافريقية المشاطئة للمحيط اﻷطلسي، عملا بمقرر المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي ١٩٩٤/٢٦٤ المعنون " التعاون في مصائد اﻷسماك في افريقيا " .

2. In that decision, the Council took note of the report of the Director-General of FAO concerning the activities of the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation among African States Bordering the Atlantic Ocean (E/1994/79, annex).
