In response to a joint communication of 4 November 1998 from the Special Representative and the Chairman of the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances concerning the fate and whereabouts of Pirooz Faghaei Davani, a political activist (see E/CN.4/1999/32, annex V, para. 6), the Permanent Representative forwarded the following information:

15. On 16 November 2000, the Special Representative, in conjunction with the Special Rapporteurs on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, and on the question of torture, and the Chairman of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention sent an urgent representation on behalf of Akbar Ganji, a journalist.
15- وفي 16 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2000، أرسل الممثل الخاص بالاشتراك مع المقرر الخاص المعني بتعزيز وحماية الحق في حرية الرأي والتعبير، والمقرر الخاص المعني بمسألة التعذيب، ورئيس الفريق العامل المعني بالاحتجاز التعسفي، بصفة عاجلة، شخصاً لكي يُمثِّل أكبر غانجي وهو صحفي.

261. On 6 August 1999, the Special Rapporteur transmitted an urgent appeal to the Government jointly with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Sudan and the Chairman of the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, concerning the case of lawyer Hameed Mustafa Abdu.
261- وفي 6 آب/أغسطس 1999 وجه المقرر الخاص، بالاشتراك مع المقرر الخاص المعني بحالة حقوق الانسان في السودان ورئيس الفريق العامل المعني بحالات الاختفاء القسري أو غير الطوعي، نداء عاجلا الى الحكومة بشأن حالة المحامي حميد مصطفى عبده.

11. Mr. Khane (Secretary of the Committee) explained that the distinction related to the different status of the special rapporteurs, the independent expert and the Chairman of the Working Group on the Right to Development.
11- السيد خان (أمين سرّ اللجنة): أوضح أن التفرقة تتعلق باختلاف مركز المقرّرين الخاصين، والخبير المستقل، ورئيس الفريق العامل المعني بالحق في التنمية.

50. The spokesman for the African Group (Sudan) thanked the Chairman of the Meeting and the Chairman of the Working Group for their leadership and expressed high praise for the representatives of the least developed countries who had made valiant efforts to attend.

The detention of Mr. Agbakoba followed the detention of Gani Fawehinmi on whose behalf a joint urgent appeal had been sent by the Special Rapporteur and the Chairman of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention on 7 February 1996 (see para. 50 above).
وقد جاء احتجاز السيد أغباكوبا في أعقاب احتجاز غاني فاويهنمي الذي بعث المقرر الخاص ورئيس الفريق العامل المعنـي بمسألـة الاحتجـاز التعسفـي نـداء مشتركـا عاجـلا بالنيابـة عنـه في ٧ شباط/فبراير ١٩٩٦ )انظر الفقرة ٠٥ أعلاه(.

On 23 July, the Permanent Representative of France and the Chairman of the Working Group of the Security Council on Children and Armed Conflict, Ambassador Jean-Marc de la Sablière, briefed the Council members on the annual report on the activities of the Working Group (S/2007/428).

It should be noted that on 2 August 1995, the Special Rapporteur on the question of torture, the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers and the Chairman of the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances had issued a communication addressed to the Government expressing their deep concern over the adoption of such a law.
١٢- والجدير بالذكر أن المقرر الخاص المعني بمسألة التعذيب، والمقرر الخاص المعني بحالات الإعدام خارج نطاق القانون أو بإجراءات موجزة أو الإعدام التعسفي، والمقرر الخاص المعني باستقلال القضاة والمحامين، ورئيس الفريق العامل المعني بحالات الاختفاء القسري أو غير الطوعي، وجهوا يوم ٢ آب/أغسطس ٥٩٩١ رسالة إلى الحكومة يعربون فيها عن قلقهم إزاء اعتماد هذا القانون.

6. On 4 November 1998, the Special Representative and the Chairman of the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances transmitted to the Minister for Foreign Affairs a joint urgent appeal requesting they be informed of the appropriate investigations in order to clarify the fate and whereabouts of Pirooz Faghaei Davani, a political activist. He was reported missing since he had left his home in Tehran on Tuesday, 25 August 1998.
6- وفي 4 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 1998، أرسل الممثل الخاص ورئيس الفريق العامل المعني بمسألة حالات الاختفاء القسري أو غير الطوعي نداء عاجلا مشتركا إلى وزارة الخارجية يطلبان فيه إعلامهما بشأن التحقيقات المناسبة التي أجريت بغية توضيح مصير ومكان وجود النشط السياسي بيروز فاغائي دافاني الذي بلّغ عن اختفائه بعد مغادرته منزله في طهران يوم الثلاثاء 25 آب/أغسطس 1998.

In addition, he transmitted an urgent appeal in conjunction with the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions and the Chairman of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, concerning the situation of prisoners held at the Al-Khyam prison, in the Marjouyun region of south Lebanon.
وباﻹضافة الى ذلك، وجه المقرر الخاص إلى الحكومة نداء عاجلا بالاشتراك مع المقرر الخاص المعني بحالات اﻹعدام بلا محاكمة أو بإجراءات مبتسرة أو اﻹعدام التعسفي ومع رئيس الفريق العامل المعني بالاعتقال التعسفي فيما يتصل بحالة السجناء المعتقلين في سجن الخيام في منطقة مرجعيون في جنوب لبنان.
