As stated by President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali on many occasions, Tunisia is committed to following the same approach it has taken since the beginning of the peace process, by establishing a close link between each step towards normalization and the progress achieved by the negotiations on all tracks.
وعلى نحو ما أعلن ذلك الرئيس زين العابدين بن على في العديد مــن المناسبــات، فإن تونس تؤكد التزامها بالخط الثابت الذي اتبعته منذ انطلاق مسيرة الســلام فــي الشرق اﻷوسط والذي يقوم على الربط الوثيق لكل خطوة نحــو التطبيــع بمــدى التقــدم في المفاوضات على جميع المسارات.

President Ben Ali of Tunisia had appealed for the signature of an international charter for peace and progress.
وأن رئيس بلده السيد بن علي قد طالب بالتوقيع على ميثاق دولي للسلام والتقدم.

Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has long been aware of these truths.

Opposition groups involved in toppling Ben Ali suspect that some members of the interim Government sympathize with the ousted administration and that the revolution was only possible due to support from the former regime, especially the security forces.
وتشك جماعات المعارضة التي شاركت في الإطاحة بحكم بن علي في أن بعض أعضاء الحكومة المؤقتة يتعاطفون مع الحكومة المخلوعة، ويعتقدون أن الثورة لم تكن لتتحقق لولا دعم النظام السابق لها، وبخاصة قوات الأمن.

President Ben Ali also asserted his determination to ensure the proper enforcement and primacy of the law, and successfully revised the legislation relating to political activity.
وأكد الرئيس بن علي كذلك على حرصه على إعطاء القانون حرمته وقام فعلا بمراجعة القوانين الناظمة للحياة السياسية.

23. On 7 November 1987, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali assumed the office of President of the Republic in a constitutionally lawful manner.
٣٢- وفي ٧ تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر ٧٨٩١، تكفل الرئيس زين العابدين بن علي بمهمة رئاسة الجمهورية في إطار من الشرعية الدستورية.

They argue that despite the overthrow of President Ben Ali and the political changes in Tunisia, the human rights situation in the country remains unstable and its political future is very uncertain.
ويقول صاحبا الشكوى إنه على الرغم من الإطاحة بالرئيس بن علي والتغيرات السياسية التي شهدتها تونس، فإن حالة حقوق الإنسان في البلد لا تزال غير مستقرة وأن مستقبله السياسي غير مؤكد.

The complainants further argue that many of the judges appointed by Ben Ali retained their positions after the overthrow and that the current Government use disproportionate and excessive force to quell the protests.

They submit that uncertainty as to whether supporters of Ben Ali will regain power exposes them to a real risk of being tortured upon return.

41. Tunisia has prosecuted and tried alleged perpetrators of gross human rights violations committed during both the uprising and previous periods, particularly the Ben Ali era.

In 1988, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali reaffirmed his devotion to the “Code of Rights and Obligations”, a real source of pride for modern Tunisia. He did this by creating a ministry for women's and family affairs.
ففي عام ١٩٨٨، أكد من جديـد الرئيـس زيـن العابدين بن على التزامـه ﺑ " مدونة الحقوق والالتزامات " التي هي مصـدر فخـر حقيقـي لتونـس العصريـة، وذلك بإنشاء وزارة لشؤون المرأة واﻷسرة.

In the Tunis trial, 43 defendants, including Ben Ali and high-ranking officials of the security sector, were tried before the Permanent Military Tribunal of Tunis for the killing of protesters in the cities of Tunis, Ariana, al-Manouba, Ben Arous, Bizerte, Nabeul, Zaghouan, Sousse and Monastir.
