The database was created for the third periodic report on the situation of children in Lebanon, which will form the core of the national database once that is approved;

Comprehensive recent statistical studies on working children in Lebanon have not yet been carried out. The most recent study on this topic was a study on the status of children in Lebanon in 2000, which was used in drawing up the third periodic report on the situation of children in Lebanon for the period 19982003.

44. The State of children in Lebanon was based on the statistical framework provided by the comprehensive survey of buildings and institutions carried out by the Central Administration of Statistics in 1995 and 1996.

87. The United Nations continued to receive allegations of use of children in sectarian clashes, specifically in the Tripoli neighbourhoods of Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tebbaneh, and on children in Lebanon being pressured into joining armed groups in the Syrian Arab Republic.

41. In the past years, several important surveys were undertaken, namely " The Population and Housing Survey, 1996 " , " The Survey on Living Conditions, 1997 " , and " The State of children in Lebanon, 2000 " .

The third periodic report on the situation of children in Lebanon for the period 19982003 indicated that a nongovernmental organization has set up a complaints office for children, but that it is limited in scope. Other organizations have followed that example, receiving complaints and following them up.
