The Greek Cypriot press reported on 13 August 2002 that the Greek Cypriot Defence Minister, Mr. Hasikos, in a statement made on 12 August 2002 at a commemoration ceremony, did not hesitate to state that, within the framework of the " Joint Military Doctrine " signed between the Greek Cypriot administration and Greece, they would continue to arm secretly.

It was also reported in the Greek Cypriot daily Fileleftheros of 12 August 1998 that matters related to the further strengthening of the " joint military doctrine " between Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration were taken up at a recent meeting between the Greek Cypriot Defence Minister, Mr. Yannakis Omirou, and the Greek Deputy Chief of Staff, General Fetini.

In an interview aired by the Greek Cypriot television, as reported also by the Greek Cypriot press of 10 April 2002, the Greek Cypriot Defence Minister Mr. Hasikos referred to the " Joint Military Doctrine " and stated that certain changes within the Greek Cypriot National Guard were under way with a view to keeping in line with the restructuring of the Armed Forces of Greece.

As if the display of such war scenarios was not obvious enough for all concerned, the Greek Cypriot Defence Minister, Mr. Costas Iliades, has made remarks to the effect that the Greek Cypriot side is ready for every kind of military action and that they are preparing surprises for Turkey (Greek Cypriot press, 6 October 1997).
