At the third meeting, the Main Committee considered agenda item 5 (b), " To assess the effectiveness of the existing Durban follow-up mechanisms and other relevant United Nations mechanisms dealing with the issue of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance in order to enhance them " .

28. At its 7th and 8th meetings, on 9 October, the Preparatory Committee began discussions on section 2 of the outcome document ( " Assessment of the effectiveness of existing Durban followup mechanisms and other relevant United Nations mechanisms in order to enhance them " ), facilitated by Sebastian Rosales of Argentina.

3. Requests the Executive Director, in coordination with Governments, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders, as appropriate, to continue activities on lead and cadmium and to enhance them within the existing mandate of the United Nations Environment Programme, subject to the availability of extrabudgetary resources;
